Interface Controller
General Description
The AT/LANTICAT Local Area Network Twisted-pair Inter-
face Controllerisa CMOS VLSI device designedfor easy
implementationof CSMA/CD local area networks.
Uniqueto theAT/LANTICisthe integrationofthe entirebus
interfacefor PC-ATÉISA (Industry Standard Architecture)
bus based systems. Hardwareand software selectableop-
tions allowthe AT/LANTIC’sbus interfacetobe configured
software compatibleto eitheran NE2000or Ethercard
PLUS16TM.Allbus drivers and control logicare integrated reduce board costand area.
Supported network interfaces include 10BASE5or
10BASE2 Ethernetviaan external transciever connectedto
its AUI port, and Twisted-pair Ethernet (10BASE-T) using
the on-board transceiver. The AT/LANTIC providesthe
Ethernet Media Access Control (MAC), Encode-Decode
(ENDEC) withanAUI interface,and 10BASE-T transceiver
functionsin accordance withthe IEEE 802.3 standards.
The AT/LANTIC’s integrated 10BASE-T transceiver fully
complieswiththe IEEE standard.This functionalblock incor-
poratesthe receiver, transmitter, collision, heartbeat, Ioop-
back, jabber,andlink integrity blocksas definedinthe stan-
dard. The transceiver when combined with equalizationre-
sistors, transmit/receive filters,and pulse transformerspro-
videsa complete physical interface fromthe AT/LANTIC
Controller’s ENDEC moduleandthe twistedpair medium.
