OC-192 is a high-speed optical networking standard that plays a crucial role in modern telecommunications and data transmission. Operating at a line rate of approximately 9.953 gigabits per second (Gbps), it is part of the Synchronous Optical Network (SONET) hierarchy, widely used in North America, and is equivalent to the Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) STM-64 standard in global telecommunications.  

Designed for long-haul and metropolitan area networks, OC-192 enables efficient, high-bandwidth data transfer over fiber-optic cables. Its robust architecture supports multiplexing multiple lower-speed signals, ensuring reliable performance for voice, video, and data applications. The technology is commonly deployed in backbone networks, internet service provider (ISP) infrastructures, and enterprise-level communications.
