SPEECH
The speech network includes:a low noise transmitchannelsuitablefor any kind microphone transducer.Softclippingon trans-
mit line signalis providedby the chip.a low noise receive channel with symmetrical
outputstobe compatible with both piezoceramic
and electrodynamic earpiece. An additional 6dB
gain can be insertedin the receive channel
throughsoftware control.a linelength gain control(AGC) with startingpoint gainregulation fixedat 25mAline current; slope gainregulationis externallyadjustablewith one
resistor.AGCcanbe removedby hardware (maxi-
mumgain flat)orby software(-2dB flat).
The phone impedance and sidetonecanbe tuned
through external networks.
DTMF GENERATOR

The onboard DTMF generator fullfils the CEPT
requirements withan external single pole filter.
RINGER
to8 different tones can be generatedby the
TEA7088Aringer. The digital volume controlof the
ringer can be performed througha specific com-
mand(4 steps). Aring indicationsignalis provided the microcontroller by the TEA7088A.If more
tones are requested the input RM/MSK allowsto
inject tones generatedby the microcontroller.
FURTHER ADVANTAGES

The microcontroller power supplyis providedby the
TEA7088A.Thepower supplyis specificallydesigned copewitha longflashora longgroundkey duration.
The TEA7088Ais ableto supply the necessary
current to an external speakerphone circuit
TEA7540 and loudspea ker amplifier TEA7532
without any additional circuitry.
Line current and reset indications are providedto
the microcontrollerby the TEA7088A.
The microcontroller drives the TEA7088A through2 wires serial interface.

AGC can be inhibited also through MCU code
”010100”.In this caseTx and Rx gains are fixed
2dB lower than the maximum gain.
The minimum saturation voltageof the TEA7088A
respectto groundis 2.2V. On long line, when the
voltage over TEA7088Ais low, the softclipping
function automatically limits the AC dynamicto
avoidto reachthe 2.2V limiton TEA7088Arespect ground.

TEA7088A

MICROCONTROLLER INTERFACE WITH TEA7088A
All inputs can be driven bya Low level max.of
0.1x VRMC anda high level min.of 0.9x VRMC.
Inputs MSK, DCL and DATA have internal pull-up
resistorsof 120kΩ and input OSC hasa internal
pullupof 240kΩ.
All outputs can drivea ±1mA typical.
Power Supply

The microcontrolleris power suppliedbya 3.4V
regulated supply (VRMC) and by an unregulated
power supply (VMC).
The two supplies are connected througha serial
regulator. The unregulatedpower supply (VMC) has DC voltageequalto: V12 -0.6V and must belower
than 6V.Itis also possibleto connecta batteryat
Pin VMC and use the regulated outputat Pin VRMC supplya LCDdriver.
The current consumption on the serial regulator
hasa typical valueof 60μA.
Power ON
(PON)
TheTEA7088Ageneratesa poweron signal(PON) soonas the voltageon Pin VRMCis higher than
2.6V (0.75x VRMC final)and the line currentis pre-
sent.
Note:
Du ring the b reak period in the
loopdisconndect and Flash mode and
during the exchange line break, the power
ONsignal goesto lowlevel.Maximum delay
for Pon decay edge after ILine goesto zero 50ms (with C8= 47μF, C11= 1μF,
C27= 10μF).
Reset

The TEA7088Ageneratesa rise edge Reset signal soonas the logic power supplyis higher than
2.6V (0.75x VRMC final).
RESET remains high until VRMC decreases below
2.5Vor the RESET control codeis received. In
Ring, RESETis identicaltoRI output.
Only new positive edge PON, derivedon opening
and closing the line,is forcing the default mode
again. The Reset control codeis only activein
speech mode.
Serial Bus Interface
(Data and Clock)
The serialbus uses6 bits. Astandard8bit buscan used, bitsa6 anda7 are not takein accountby
the TEA7088A.Differenttypesof codes are used: TheRing Control Code: Ring startup Outputlevel codes TheOperating Code: Speech Dialing Microphone mute Earphone/Microphonemute TheData Codes (DTMF, ring frequencies):
Those data codes are stored inside the
TEA7088Aand are usedas soonas the dialing
codeor the ring start codeis received. TheConfiguration Code: AGC/no AGC (toggle) No mask/ mask (Low DCin ”make”) (toggle) Normal gain/ normal gain +6dB, on receive
channel (toggle) 1.79MHz external clock/ 3.58MHz internal
oscillator (toggle)
Those configuration codes are ”Flip-Flop”
codes.
For instance: The first time that the+6dBcode sent, the receive gain increasesof +6dB. the same codeis sent again, the receivegain
goes backto normal value. In thesame way the
3.58MHz internal oscillator can be switched
OFF witha second transmissionof the proper
code. TheRESET Code:
ResetcodefromtheMCU willresetinternallogic TEA7088Ato default mode and will induce
TEA7088Ato generatea ”RESET” status ”low” the MCUon Pin 19.
Warning: the ”RESET” code deactivates the
serial bus interface whichis reactivated only
aftera ”ON-HOOK/OFF-HOOK”sequence. TheINITIALIZATION Code:
Initialization code from the MCU will reset the
internallogicof TEA7088Ato default mode, but
theTEA7088Awill not generatereset command the MCUon Pin 19.
