The MOC3061 is a zero-crossing optocoupler designed for interfacing between low-voltage control circuits and high-voltage AC loads. It integrates an infrared LED optically coupled to a triac driver, providing reliable isolation and noise immunity in switching applications.  

A key feature of the MOC3061 is its zero-crossing detection, which ensures the connected triac switches only when the AC voltage crosses zero. This minimizes inrush currents and reduces electromagnetic interference (EMI), making it ideal for controlling resistive or inductive loads such as heaters, motors, and solenoids.  

With an isolation voltage rating of up to 5,300 Vrms, the MOC3061 enhances safety by preventing high-voltage transients from affecting sensitive control circuits. Its compact DIP-6 package allows for easy integration into PCB designs, while its low trigger current requirement (typically 15 mA) ensures compatibility with microcontrollers and logic circuits.
