The MOC3083M is a high-performance optocoupler designed for AC power control applications. It integrates a gallium arsenide infrared LED and a silicon triac in a compact, six-pin dual in-line package (DIP). This optocoupler provides electrical isolation between low-voltage control circuits and high-voltage AC loads, making it ideal for applications requiring safe and reliable switching.  

A key feature of the MOC3083M is its zero-crossing detection, which ensures the triac triggers only when the AC voltage crosses zero. This minimizes inrush current and reduces electromagnetic interference (EMI), enhancing the lifespan of connected devices. With a blocking voltage of 800V, it can handle moderate to high-power loads, making it suitable for industrial and consumer electronics such as motor controls, lighting systems, and solid-state relays.  

The device offers an input-output isolation voltage of 5,000Vrms, ensuring robust protection against voltage spikes and surges. Its low trigger current requirement (15mA max) allows compatibility with microcontrollers and logic circuits. Additionally, the MOC3083M operates over a wide temperature range (-40°C to +100°C), ensuring reliability in harsh environments.
